Our Heritage

Three generations of service, Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm Street Bucksport has been serving the families of Maine for over 90 years.

William Mitchell opened for business on Main Street in Bucksport in 1920.  At about the same time the mill opened in Bucksport in the 1930’s Mitchell built a new funeral home on Elm Street.  In the 1940s, Mr. Harvard Clark of Brewer joined the firm and they became Clark and Mitchell.  The funeral home was moved to its present location on 28 Elm Street in 1947 to accommodate the growing business in the area.

Clark-Mitchell Served eastern Maine families up to 1961 when Charles Mitchell-William’s son purchased the funeral home with Robert Tweedie and thus Mitchell-Tweedie Inc. became the name.

In 1973, Charles Mitchell’s daughter, Kathy and her husband Ed Maguire, joined the firm.  In 1985, Ed and Kathy purchased the funeral home.  The Maguire’s are proud of their three-generation family business.

In 1999, Ed and Kathy Maguire purchased Young Funeral Home at 31 West Main Street in Searsport adding second generation funeral home started by Fred E. Young

Today, Mitchell-Tweedie, Inc. continues to serve families in eastern and coastal Maine with care and dignity, working with any family to meet their needs.  We offer pre-need planning, traditional funerals, cremations, graveside services, and more, within the means of all.
